Delki Dozzi CommunityFood Forest
Early in 2016, Sudbury Shared Harvest recruited a planning committee made up of five community members, including some with extensive experience growing fruit trees and other food in our climate. After several months of searching and consulting with City staff, we chose an approximately 8,000 square foot site at Delki Dozzi park, between the parking lot and the cycling track.
In July 2016, collaborating with reThink Green, Sudbury Shared Harvest secured a grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation to plan and plant Sudbury’s first community food forest. The planning committee worked with design coach Bonita Ford over the winter and more than 75 volunteers participated in planting and maintenance in the 2017 season, completing about half of the chosen area ("Phase I"). Phase II was planted in May of 2018 thanks to generous support from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. Volunteers maintain the area and we can always use more help between April and October.
